When visiting the Italian capital of Rome it can feel as if you've stepped back in time 2,000 years. You can explore the Romans history in the Eternal City, where you can tread along the same paths as the emperors Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula and Nero.
Rome is home to some of the world's greatest treasures, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill, which are conveniently all within walking distance of each other. As you get close to the Colosseum, you will encounter men milling around in gladiator costumes armed with plastic swords. They hustle tourists into dropping Euros in exchange for having their pictures taken with them. The Colosseum was built by slave labor and opened in the year 80 AD. It earned its name from the 100-foot high statue of Nero that stood outside it, which no longer exists today.
